101 Things About Me: Meet the Creator Behind Artist Exploring Life

SHARING IS CARING, OR JUST OVER SHARING?

updated 8/14/2026

If you don’t know much about me yet, this is a great place to begin. I first saw a list like this on a website years ago and ended up reading every single one. I hope you enjoy these random facts, which aren’t in any special order. Try to read them all—there might be a quiz at the end!

Of course, I’m just joking about the quiz, but some of these facts might actually make sense as you go along.

As an artist exploring life, my world is full of moving pieces. To make this massive list a little easier to digest, I have grouped my random thoughts into a few main buckets. Grab a coffee, jump in, and let’s get to know each other!

CREATIVE SPARKS AND ARTISTIC LIFE

1. I took my first art class in college (I know, cutting it a bit close!).

2. Never imagined I’d be a full-time artist, but here we are.

3. I have a BFA (Bachelor of Fine Arts degree).

4. I never cared for the face people made when I said I was an art major. I love what I do—do you?

5. I always said I’d be a photographer, and honestly, I'm not too far from that reality.

6. I’ve never taken a photography course, which is exactly why I refuse to use the formal title of "photographer."

7. I'm usually my own model for my visual projects.

8. I still get very surprised when one of my works is chosen for a gallery show or a magazine.

9. I did a summer course in Italy, which completely expanded my worldview. (not because of the course but the location)

10. Artistically, I deeply admire Picasso.

11. My earliest memory is from age four, and it's the main inspiration behind my art series, Fragments.

12. I believe everyone has a creative side; most people just don’t take the time to explore it.

13. I am an interdisciplinary artist, meaning I love merging completely different mediums and techniques.

14. I would love to exhibit my work in my birth country, Guatemala. Let's get the word out!

15. I didn’t know my name was so popular until I decided to step into the art world professionally.

16. I’ve always wanted to study abroad—maybe for my Master’s degree or an artist residency.

17. I love pens that write or doodle beautifully. Warning: they always secretly end up in my purse (sorry!).

18. I would love to write a book about my life, but I’m genuinely afraid people would assume it’s a soap opera and couldn't possibly be real.

19. My absolute favorite music is world music. Classical and blues come very close, depending entirely on my mood.

20. I’ve always liked cheerful, colorful, vibrant things—except during a darker period in my life when my palette changed.

21. I love dancing to samba music, even though I really can’t dance it at all.

22. I feel completely naked without earrings. That restless creative energy is why I’m exploring jewelry making right now.

23. I’ve always possessed an entrepreneurial, business driven mind, even since I was a little girl.

24. I am a restless soul, and that exact dynamic translates straight onto my art and projects.

25. I started out as an education major with just a few art classes on the side, until I did my classroom observation hours and realized it definitely wasn't for me. I observed elementary and middle school classes, if that matters.

WANDERING, WONDERING AND EXPLORING

26. Texas has been home ever since I moved here from Guatemala.

27. If money weren't an option, I'd travel the world full-time without hesitation.

28. I dream of opening a curated store filled with adorable, unique finds from my global travels, sharing my love of diverse cultures and art.

29. I wanted to convert a van to travel (van life!) But we did RV life for a year, so close enough.

30. I wanted a destination wedding (hubby didn’t, vow renewal here I come!)

31. Everyone tells me I don’t look Guatemalan (I don’t know what I’m supposed to say)

32. This girl has a serious fear of heights, yet you will absolutely find me riding the roller coasters.

33. I am deeply drawn to strong, fierce women in history. I wonder why?

34. The car I have always wanted is a classic CJ Jeep—though I would happily take an old Bronco or International Harvester Scout instead.

35. I firmly believe in Feng Shui. I regularly use my Bagua map to decorate my spaces or shift the energy.

36. I cannot slow down; my mind simply won’t allow it. I am perpetually planning, creating, or pondering my next big goal or dream.

37. I genuinely enjoy thrift shopping, and I loved hunting for unique pieces long before it became a popular trend.

38. I have driven across the country from Texas to California three times (twice specifically to help my sister take a car).

39. I really enjoy road trips, as you can probably tell by now!

40. I love being by the beach. If we had pretty, crystal-clear water in Texas, I would live right on the coast.

41. If I had to pick an alternate career path, it would definitely be something in the field of history, well as long as it required plenty of travel.

42. I believe in an afterlife. I can distinctly feel my mom's presence with me at times. (I will be the visiting ghost!)

43. I am a social introvert. Yes, it is a real thing!

44. I was completely out on my own at 18 years old, a long time to be exploring.

45. My thought is that 30s are infinitely better than your 20s.

46. I strictly refer to myself as Latina or Guatemalan—not really Hispanic, and definitely not Mexican, because you know, some people always think latinos are all Mexican.

47. I am not religious, but I am deeply spiritual.

48. I’m honestly not a natural host. We just didn’t entertain guests much growing up, so it doesn't come natural to me.

49. I am completely Pinterest-obsessed for saving art supplies to try, travel destinations, and new recipes.

50. I believe in fate and destiny. What is truly meant to be will always find a way to be for you.

LIFEBE LIFING

51. I am trying incredibly hard to become a minimalist.

52. I always fiercely said I would NEVER be a stay-at-home wife. Life loves a good plot twist, because here I am stay at home wife AND mother.

53. I always wanted a massive family when I was little. Now, I am perfectly content and happy with my beautiful, tiny family.

54. My absolute biggest pet peeve is when someone says they’re going to do something and don’t. Follow through, people!

55. I feel like I am always on a diet (seriously, even breathing the air makes me gain weight). That daily struggle is exactly why I am actively studying health.

56. I firmly believe that what goes around comes around. (Which means those pretty pens I keep pocketing will absolutely end up in someone else's purse eventually!)

57. I do infinitely better at keeping track of things with a physical planner. Having a calendar on my phone just isn’t the same.

58. I absolutely hate when someone tells me I can’t do something. Don't test me.

59. I absolutely LOVE lists. Case in point: this exact post.

60. The older I get, the less social I want to be. I am becoming much more intentionally selective with my energy.

61. I can be incredibly moody at times.

62. I haven't met my ultimate soulmate friend yet. If you’re out there, please find me! I'm looking for someone who loves art, fun music, and understands that I feel naked without my earrings.

63. I used to say I was completely fine if I didn’t have children, mostly because I genuinely thought it wasn’t biologically possible for me.

64. I am a stark realist who sets practical, achievable goals. Hubby absolutely hates that—he is a visionary who believes in massive, wild dreams.

65. I am entirely self-diagnosed as claustrophobic.

66. I am really not a sappy girl.

67. I have two sisters, but we are insanely different. It feels like we are from entirely different planets—maybe even different galaxies.

68. I am a natural optimist and consciously try to find the good in every single situation.

69. I am the only child of my parents’ union. Even though I have siblings, I grew up completely feeling like an only child.

70. I do not believe in love at first sight, though my husband absolutely does.

71. I hate math, but I have a weird knack for making money out of nothing—or at least, that's what my husband tells me!

72. I never truly feared death until the exact moment I became a mother.

73. I am proof that you can be fiercely independent and deeply dedicated to your family all at the exact same time.

74. My dream studio isn't just a place to create; it's a sanctuary where every single corner flows with intentional energy & my family feels comfortable. (my kid had his own area in my last studio)

75. I am a proud, self-proclaimed "crunchy mom." My child's health and my own body thank me for it every single day.

AND IT CONTINUES

76. I would much rather eat my calories than drink them.

77. It really bothers me when adults make excuses for how they act. Kids can get away with it, but grown-ups shouldn’t.

78. I hardly ever watch romantic movies. If you see me watching one, it’s only because someone made me.

79. I absolutely cannot start my day without making the bed.

80. If I do something, it’s always because I want to, not because I feel like I have to or because someone told me.

81. I really don’t like it when people expect your help but never help you back. Treat others the way you want to be treated!

82. I think when I’m old it’s going to be me and my three friends.

83. I always thought I wanted a girl, but I absolutely LOVE being a boy mom.

84. I will choose a maid over a nanny any day, because I want to be the one taking care of my child.

85. I don’t always get along with other women (more like they don’t really like me).

86. I firmly believe you shouldn’t talk about politics, religion, or money with friends. I am adding medical choices to that private list now.

87. I’m basically a fairy godmother, just without the magic or wings.

88. When someone makes me angry, I can really lose my temper. So please, try not to make me mad.

89. Hubby and I dated for a solid five years before we finally got engaged.

90. I actually had the name Mochito picked out for over 10 years before I finally got him. (He is my heavenly fur baby now)

91. I have frequently contemplated living in other countries, but I just haven’t found the perfect fit for me and my family yet.

92. My longest friendship began when I was just four years old. That’s what I call a lifelong bond.

93. Growing up, I never felt like I fit in with my family, especially the women, until I met the women on my dad’s side.

94. I absolutely hate being fake. I am fully capable of doing it, but I do not enjoy it one bit.

95. At first, I didn’t know what I wanted to study, so I kept putting off college and went straight to work instead. I definitely did things backward!

96. I did the same thing with grad school and put it off again, but now I’m finally ready.

97. The older I get, the less I have in common with long-term friends, but a specific few are officially grandfathered in as family. (only them)

98. I don’t see myself having a traditional retirement. Creative people don’t really retire, but I do plan on retiring my husband!

99. I want to write a children’s book about things I found missing from the books I find for my own child.

100. One day, I am going to start a foundation dedicated to helping children.

101. It used to be tough to find a normal work-life balance (now I’m trying to juggle my art business and my health business; one of them always seems to get left out!)

I THINK YOU KNOW ME A LITTLE

Wheeeeew that was long-winded. I actually wrote this throughout the year, whenever I had some spare moment. (I’m looking for time if you know a place that sells it)

I hope you enjoyed reading a few facts about me, Leslie the person behind the art. I will definitely update this list to see if I achieve some of my goals/dreams on it.
